Gross, a Manhattan dermatologist and the founder of MD Skincare, became
fascinated with water in 2001, when he noticed that his clientele of
magazine editors, socialites and designers were returning from the fashion
shows in Milan with cranky skin. If their skin-care regimen hadn't
changed, Gross reasoned, the common denominator had to be the water. So he
started pocketing H2O samples on his travels and running his own tests.

New Nail Salon Rules Come 2 Weeks After Pedicure Related Death

A woman's death is being blamed on a Fort Worth spa, and in less than a
week, new state regulations are being put in place to prevent it from
happening again, KPRC Local 2 reported Thursday. Kim Jackson died two
weeks ago from a Staph infection she contracted while receiving a
pedicure. The 46-year- old paraplegic did not realize her foot was cut
until she saw blood on the pumice stone.

Day Spa Closes in Indiana; Angers Gift-Certificate Holders
The Republic
Serenity Salon and Day Spa closed without notice this month, leaving
dozens of people with worthless gift certificates. Many, with certificates
valued up to $1,000 are frustrated, angry and want refunds but don’t know
where to go. Also dealing with the confusing situation are the new
tenants, Rhonda Bailey and Judy Breneman, owners of Studio 135 Salon & Day
Spa.

Salons to Accept Serenity Gift Cards
The Republic
At least three area salon owners want to help residents left holding gift
cards from the closed Serenity Salon and Day Spa. “We need to come
together and do something,” said Jerry Weber, a Columbus salon owner for
27 years. He and others, including Studio B at Tipton Lakes Athletic Club,
plan to provide between 25 percent and 50 percent of the cards’ values for
salon services.

Ear candling, or coning as it is sometimes called, is believed to have
originated thousands of years ago – perhaps among the Egyptians – as a
therapeutic way to draw wax and toxins out of the ear. Today, it is used
as a natural therapy to clean out the ears and provide relief for sinus
passages. Wendy Cominsky, a technician at Aja Salon and Day Spa,
Trucksville, has been doing ear candling for years. “A lot of it is
opinion,” Cominsky said. “There’s nothing you can say it does or does not
do. It is considered a holistic practice.”
