A Spiritual Growth Plan

The Deepak Chopra brand name, long known to San Diegans, has been expanding for some time through the philosopher's books, tapes and videos... . Now, his company is looking to add so-called Chopra Centers, the first of which is at Chopra's headquarters in Carlsbad, to hotels and spas around the world.

Another new center opened last month at the Doral Golf Resort & Spa in Miami. In the next year, the company will extend a line of Chopra products and workshops, on a trial basis, to four other locations: the Claremont Resort & Spa in Berkeley; La Quinta Resort & Club near Palm Springs; Arizona Biltmore Resort & Spa in Phoenix; and the Grand Wailea Resort & Spa on Maui. Douglas J. Aveda Institute Opens in Michigan

The Douglas J. Aveda Institute is first occupant of Collegian building on Maynard. The Douglas J Aveda Institute, an East Lansing-based school and spa, opened its doors this month, targeting students interested in a career in beauty-related services and customers who want discounted prices.

The institute follows the curriculum set by Aveda, a Minneapolis-based company that specializes in hair, skin, makeup and body-care products. The school, which is also a full-service spa, sells a full range of Aveda products. Students polish their skills by servicing real clients, who are charged a discounted price.
