Capitalize on Health, Beauty Trend
Coloradoan
Online (01-30-05)
When Jane
Rossi opened Cleopatra's Day Spa nine years ago, she had just one
competitor in Fort Collins. Now, she can't keep track of all the new spas
that have made Northern Colorado home in the past five years. There are
spas offering medical treatments, spas that include acupuncture or other
New Age methods of healing and spas that are part of larger salons. Even
as some businesses fail after only several months, still more pop up to
take their places, said Rossi. "It's more acceptable with all these
'Extreme Makeover' shows on television right now," she said. "It's
popular and it's hip, and there are a lot of things on the news about
being healthy and beautiful."

Thailand Spas
Struggling
MCOT News
(01-27-05)
A huge number
of spa businesses in Thailand's six southern Andaman provinces affected
by last month's tsunamis are still struggling to recover their
operations, according to the Ministry of Public Health.
While spas on
the resort island of Phuket have got off relatively lightly, with only
around 20 percent affected, elsewhere the damage is much higher. In Krabi
Province, over 66 percent of spas have reported damage to their
businesses, and in Phang-nga the figure is as high as 73 percent.
Reef House
Spa voted Number-One
Travel
Blackboard (01-28-05)
The Sebel
Reef House & Spa is proud to announce that its signature day spa has
taken first place in the coveted 2005 'Readers' Spa Awards', within the
Overseas Hotels Australia and South Pacific category of Conde Nast
Traveller. In only its second year of publication the already prestigious
'Spa Awards', polls thousands of the famed UK publication's readers, to
reach a fair and unbiased result. The magazine asked readers to rate the
spas against ten criteria, which also included ambience, amenities and
treatment therapies.
Up against
fierce competition, the 18-month old, purpose-built Reef House Spa
romped in as the best spa in Australia and South Pacific, and was further
declared 10th best spa in the world. "We are exceptionally proud of this
award" said Michael Sheridan, General Manager, of The Sebel Reef House &
Spa. "It is world-wide acknowledgement of the Spa and its beneficial and
therapeutic treatments and, recognition of Palm Cove as an international
spa destination.
At the Spa:
Tarot Readings and other Supernatural Healers
USAToday.Com
(01-19-05)
Sure, they
still give facials and hot-stone massages. But a growing number of spas
are dipping their pedicured toes in the supernatural, hoping for more
client loyalty in a market that's become increasingly crowded.
At Juve The
Spa in this north Atlanta suburb, patrons can get a metaphysical
add-on to any spa service, such as a $100 tarot card reading or a $175
one-hour astrological consultation. For $200 an hour, you can talk to an
American Indian shaman at Post Ranch Inn in Big Sur, Calif. Or try
"Soul Regression Therapy," a guided tour through past lives, for $90 an
hour at Ruby Room in Chicago, a spa that also touts sessions on
"Dream Therapy" and "Energy Healing For Pets."
Spa Hot
Spots: Tucson
Red Nova News
(01-19-05)
In Tucson's
spa epicenter, spas must find ways to distinguish themselves from
competitors. One of Tucson's newest day spas, set to open later this
month, is Touch of Tranquility at 6884 E. Sunrise Drive. Its
owner, Tom Borin, said he is spending more than $1 million of his own
money to create a day spa as palatial as any resort's - with prices to
match. A stream, dotted with lotus blossoms and arched by a teak bridge,
will bubble through the spa. Floors were covered with seashells embedded
in clear resin to resemble an ocean floor.
The spa's
opening was pushed back two weeks so workers could finish amenities such
as the brine light inhalation therapy room. Guests there will breathe
salt air as they watch a waterfall tumble past salt stalactites lit by
colored lights. Borin proudly displayed his Rasul chamber, a blue-tiled
room studded with brass stars where spa guests will ladle six different
types of mud onto their bodies to cleanse toxins from their skin. Rasul
is popular at Canyon Ranch's spa inside the Venetian Resort Hotel
Casino in Las Vegas. But the chambers are far too expensive for most
day spas to build.

KölDesign
Announces New Products
Press Release
(01-15-05)
KölDesign
- the only company to offer a line of "mix-your-own" dry facials and
scrubs has now expanded its Köl Skin Care Products line to include two
new products: "St-Honoré" and "Agadir". Köl consumers can create warm
facials or scrubs for a true "spa at home" [or "spa on the road"]
experience. By adding warm water to Köl's natural clay and herb bases,
Köl Skin Care Products users enjoy a thermal benefit that pre-mixed masks
and scrubs are unable to offer. The heat of Köl's warm masks and scrubs
opens pores to allow for greater penetration and more effective cleansing
of impurities from the skin. The dry formulas also retain their freshness
and efficacy without requiring preservatives or other chemical additives
that are common to premixed formulas.
