Fans of ABC's "Extreme Makeover" won't have to settle for the televised spectacle for much longer. Soon, Long Islanders will have access to a similar range of total-body services in their own backyard. The Advanced Aesthetics Institute, which runs centers that combine plastic surgery with traditional spa services, yesterday said it bought the Georgette Klinger chain of salons and will use that legendary brand as a base for taking root in Manhattan and expanding in the New York region. Shangri-La Asia Ltd aims to build on the idyllic image its name conjures by introducing its own spa brand to many of its hotels, a move that should also deliver a more tangible benefit: higher occupancy levels, a senior company executive said. The luxury hotel group, which took its name from the tranquil haven in author James Hilton's 1933 novel Lost Horizon, is to open a number of spas under the newly launched "CHI" brand. Shangri-La plans to open its first spa in Bangkok in June, Ian Brewis, the group's director of spa development, said in a recent interview with Dow Jones Newswires. According to one of India's most famous spas, Ananda in the Himalayas, a spa meal should comprise 55-60% carbohydrates, 30% or less fats (healthy and unsaturated, naturally) and 10-15% protein. The dish should be preferably grilled, roasted, broiled, steamed or poached. Freshness, colour, texture, flavour and aroma are paramount, with herbs being favoured over spices. Salt is kept at a minimum, peppers, garlic and lemon juice are favourites while additives and preservatives are an absolute no-no. (Economic Times) Full Story
The man poised to buy the closed Lantana resort is promising a level of luxury not seen in Bermuda before - from arranging private jets for clients to in- room massages and personal butlers. Don Burkett said his Spa ResortLantana will the first of a chain of between six and eight holistic centres around the world which will combine the best of service with state-of-the art wellness programmes.
